"From 1970-1985, I was quietly making art while pursuing a career in
Human Services. My work in the field of developmental disabilities has
been significant and inseparable from my painting. Each of the
vocations, for me, embodies a spirit of hopefulness and encouragement.
In 1985, I returned to the University of Wisconsin, Madison to complete
a Master of Fine Arts in Painting. I began making art full time in
1988.
When I paint, I look for the heart of things. I study the beauty and
order of the natural world. Sometimes my watercolors include bits of
civilization--a distant farm, a newly planted field, a loaf of warm
bread. Other paintings are more silent, revealing no human imprint.
The deep immensity of the Great Lakes never fails to renew me.
Equally, the tranquil paths of a river seen by canoe. I am always, in
my paintings and in my life, striving for simplicity. Always watching
for places of grace."
